Twinstar Contracting & Electrical Inc.

PennWest Clarion SBDC Client Success Story
Twinstar Contracting and Electrical Inc. Powers up the Community

In the small town of Mahaffey, Pennsylvania, a dream was taking shape. Brothers, Nick and Chris Miller wanted to create a general contracting and electrical service business. With passion and determination, they set out to turn their dream into a reality.

Nick Miller leveraged his extensive experience in electrical work while Chris Miller brought forth extensive experience in the contracting industry. Together, these brothers started a well-rounded residential and commercial contracting business.

“Corry has been a go-to since the beginning at start-up till now. The SBDC is a great service.”

""With no business ownership experience, Nick and Chris sought the experience of Corry Riley, a business consultant at the PennWest Clarion Small Business Development Center (SDBC). Corry played a pivotal role in the creation of a comprehensive business plan, including three years of financial projections and assisted them with business lists. Additionally, he assisted Nick in securing a grant from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), leveraging Nick’s status as a disabled veteran to obtain crucial funding for the business.

A few years after Twinstar Contracting & Electrical Inc. started their business in 2016, they faced the difficult challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The economic impact threatened the stability of the young business. However, with Corry’s guidance, they successfully navigated the application process for the COVID-19 Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan. This loan provided essential financial support, allowing them to maintain their operations and retain their workforce during uncertain times of the pandemic.

With the continued help of the SBDC, Twinstar Contracting & Electrical Inc. has experienced remarkable growth since its launch. The business has not only secured additional financing but also achieved a significant increase in sales. This growth has enabled them to create one full-time job, contributing to the local economy and providing valuable services to the community. The infusion of capital allowed them to invest in essential tools and equipment, expanding their capabilities and enhancing their service offerings. Overall, the assistance of the SBDC and the resilience of Nick and Chris have transformed Twinstar Construction & Electrical Inc. into a thriving enterprise.
