WHY SUPPLY CHAIN CONSULTING IS IMPORTANT

Supply chain management greatly impacts the overall success of a business.

  • The effectiveness of the supply chain impacts overall revenue.
  • The efficiency of the supply chain impacts overall profitability.
  • The level and management of inventory impacts overall cash flow and return on assets.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM SUPPLY CHAIN CONSULTING

A supply chain can best be defined as an integrated network of people, activities, information, and resources involved with the transformation of raw materials and components into tangible products or services. It is a function that determines how businesses can most efficiently and strategically match supply with consumer demand. Any business that sells products or services can benefit from supply chain consulting.

Since 2019, the UPMC Supplier Diversity and Inclusion program has teamed with the University of Pittsburgh’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to provide training to diverse small businesses through the UPMC Essentials for Success program. As part of the trainings, businesses (including minority-, woman-, veteran-, LGBTQ-, and disabled veteran-owned) gain approval for access to UPMC’s Diverse Supplier portal, learn about business requirements, and receive resources to promote business growth.

The program provided a series of specialized classes for diverse vendors that have been in business for at least one full year and are new to doing business with UPMC. The classes helped suppliers improve their finance, marketing and other business skills, while obtaining approval to be listed on the UPMC Supplier Diversity Portal. That tool is used by buyers within the health system to find diverse vendors for a wide range of goods and services.
