The University of Scranton SBDC Client Success Story
New Doggy Daycare Offers Dogs a Pocono Vacation!

Danielle Humphreys and her husband Andrew reached out to The University of Scranton SBDC in April 2018 for help starting a dog daycare business in Hamlin, Wayne County.

Keith Yurgosky, SBDC Business Consultant, worked with the Humphreys to go over the process of starting a business, writing a business plan, creating financial projections, and obtaining financing. The process proved lengthy as the initial site for the business changed hands and a new location was needed. As the project grew, so did the need for financing. The SBDC referred the Humphreys to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance (NEPA) Business Finance Center for their financing needs.

The clients were approved for financing in August 2019 and construction began. The project was held up in the spring of 2020 with construction delays due to the global pandemic. Finally, the SBDC celebrated with them at a long-awaited grand opening event in September 2021. The SBDC also provided information and guidance with regard to hiring employees and creating an employee handbook.

At Paw Pack Doggy Daycare (a play-on-words given the business location near Paupack in the Poconos), they tell customers Your Dog Deserves a Poconos Vacation Too! They strive to offer dogs a fun, safe, and interactive dog daycare experience. The business also offers boarding, grooming, training, and transportation services.
