Hillview Bowling Lanes will Remain Independent and Family Owned

Aaron Yuhouse first approached the St. Vincent College Small Business Development Center during the Spring of 2019. Aaron, who has spent the last 25 years as a loyal customer of Hillview and the last 16 as a part-time employee, wanted to turn his passion for the sport into an ownership position of the local business.

Aaron Yuhouse is exploring the opportunity to purchase the existing Hillview Bowling Lanes business located in Greensburg. This business was originally opened in 1962 with 20 lanes and today claims 40 lanes. Hillview Bowling is one of the largest bowling centers in the region, and the largest bowling center in Westmoreland County. Mr. Yuhouse wants to purchase and continue running the business while making modifications and upgrades to increase attraction, new business, and higher profits. Aaron has grown to know and appreciate the customers as well as the lifelong employees, and he wants to make sure this business continues for years to come.

Short-term goals to the facility include new carpeting, installation of cosmic bowling, as well as updating menu items. Long-term goals include new equipment such as new pinsetters, automatic scoring as well as new ball returns. Additionally, he would like to expand the current snack bar to more of a restaurant/pub style kitchen.

In addition to Aaron’s equity and family contributions he was able to secure funding in the early part of 2025 from local lender First Commonwealth Bank with the assistance of the Small Business Administration.

Assistance provided by the SBDC included detailed industry research from VerticalIQ. Consumer buying habits coupled with local household expenditures and demographics data were also incorporated into the formal business plan from sources such as Alteryx. Monthly and yearly financial projection estimates were prepared using these same resources.
