How One Frozen Custard Shop Became a Sweet Success

In the heart of Franklin, PA a small town known for its historic charm and welcoming community, a quaint frozen custard shop named Frankie’s Frozen Custard opened its doors in June of 2024. Frankie’s Frozen Custard started with a simple dream, to bring smiles and sweet treats to the local community. Frank Remmick, his wife, and daughters dreamt of owning a frozen custard shop, and it quickly became their reality.

In April 2024, Frank purchased land to build their frozen custard shop. Once their family closed on the land, they began to break ground and build up Frankie’s Frozen Custard shop. They faced a few challenges along the way such as weather permitting them to do construction on the building, and they opened a month later than anticipated due to rain during the spring season.

Prior to opening the business, Frank was a small business owner in Venus who served customers in northwestern Pennsylvania. He offered spray foam insulation services and wanted to improve his online presence and increase brand awareness, so he reached out to the SBDC. The PennWest Clarion SBDC helped Frank update his website with dynamic content and verify their website with Google to increase visibility.

Frank, again, reached out to the SBDC for assistance with this new business. Their business consultant, Jason Strohm, helped the Remmick family navigate through marketing endeavors. With Jason’s guidance, Frankie’s Frozen Custard planned for their grand opening and word started to spread about their creamy frozen custard and inventive flavors of peanut butter and strawberry and specialty sundaes.

Since their opening in June, the business has continued to grow rapidly by seeing a steady stream of loyal customers flowing from Franklin and surrounding communities. Frank has continued to use the SBDC’s resources as well as leaning on Jason’s expertise to grow customers and increase profits. Looking ahead, the Remmick family remains committed to building on the foundation they have established with quality products and excellent customer service.
