Main Street Grill & Bar: Great Dining in a Cozy Atmosphere Down on Main Street

With more than six years of experience in the Food & Beverage industry, and a successful partnership in one local establishment already under his belt, Christopher Darwin decided to capitalize on another opportunity to purchase and revitalize a property on Main Street in Lock Haven that previously housed a bar/restaurant business and had been closed for four years.

Darwin, having prior experience as an SBDC client, approached the Lock Haven University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in the fall of 2015 for assistance with refining his business plan to include development of financial projections and loan packaging to assist him with securing local low interest loans. With a completed business plan, Darwin secured the necessary funding to complete the purchase of the property and its contents, make planned renovations and prepare for the opening of the Main Street Grill and Bar. Darwin’s concept for the establishment included a full-service sit down American style restaurant with an accompanying bar featuring higher end, traditional adult beverages. His mission and first priority with the new establishment is to make the Main Street Grill the premier restaurant in the area, noted for its high quality of service, food and drinks.

Future plans for the property as a whole includes renovations to the second and third stories of the building which are currently vacant, with a plan to put apartments in both floors in order to create a rental income from the building as well, which will cut the over-head of the restaurant causing the business to become even more profitable over time.

The total project and investment into Lock Haven’s downtown is in excess of $450,000. The new business will create 8 new full-time positions and 18 part time positions. The public Grand Opening happened on July 28, 2016. According to Darwin, who has considerable knowledge and experience within the industry, the Main Street Grill and Bar is a business that should have no problems succeeding in this town.
