Kettle Creek Corporation: Success through Determination

A client of the Lehigh University Small Business Development Center for many years, Kettle Creek Corporation President Bonnie Haas has invested her heart, soul, and plenty of sweat equity into building Kettle Creek into the business it is today.

Most recently, Haas came to the Lehigh University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for assistance in growing her business. While she had begun selling Kettle Creek’s recycling and waste containers to local governments, she felt as if she wasn’t reaching her full potential. One way to increase visibility in the government marketplace was becoming a certified woman-owned business to sell under diverse supplier programs.

Our government marketing consultants worked with Haas to guide her through the complex documentation requirements, application, and evaluation process. After lots of waiting, requests for clarification, and a site visit, Haas received her woman-owned certification from the WBENC at the end of September 2016. Her recognition by WBENC resulted in a letter from her Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, along with a flag flown over the US Capitol!

While Haas was going through the certification process, she was also fervently working on growing her business online. After much labor from Bonnie and guidance from the SBDC, Kettle Creek is now selling online through Home Depot and has already started making sales!

Even with these successes, Haas has yet to take a break from growing Kettle Creek. She still works with the SBDC on international trade to build sales across the globe; she is working on state level diversity certifications to sell to state governments across the country; and is looking at marketing to federal agencies as well.
