New Business on the Block: Homeline Expressions

David H. Tillard II had a dream of owning his own retail gift shop in his hometown of Cresson offering unique and specialty items. His dream was to have a shop where the community could discover, design and decorate with style. In June of 2014, David was presented with the opportunity to investigate and work towards the startup of Homeline Expressions. He wasn’t quite sure where to turn and found out about the SBDC after visiting his bank and requesting funding for his venture. The bank requested a business plan, which he felt he provided them with. The bank then referred David to the St. Francis University SBDC. He called the office and the SBDC consultants met with him to discuss his business and to assist him in developing his business plan.

On June 16, 2014 SBDC Business Analyst met with David to discuss his business. At the meeting they reviewed the business planning process and provided him with a list of information that he would need to provide the center so we could assist with the development of his business proposal. It was important that David knew how much funding he needed and the use of the funds and the debt service that he would be incurring with the startup of the business. David went to work on his “to do” list and came back with information that we could use to develop his business proposal.

The SBDC assisted David in preparing a business plan, three year projected income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flow and a detailed narrative explaining how the business would operate and how he arrived at the projected figures. Upon completion of the business plan and projected financial statements, David presented them to his bank. David was requesting funds for the inventory, fixtures, and working capital to start Homeline Expressions.

In March, 2015, David informed the SBDC that the financing for Homeline Expressions was approved. In April, 2015 David opened the beginning of his dream, Homeline Expressions (Discover, Design, Decorate). Recently David had the Grand Opening to introduce the business to the community.
