Unique Fabrications provides custom steel fabrication, machine work and plasma cutting, and welding for a variety of industries. The company performs truck conversions, permanent and removable hitches, power extension mirrors, trailer beds, and heavy duty frames. During the past several years, Unique Fabrications did not struggle like other local manufacturing businesses due to its reputation for high quality production, particularly with complex fabrications that require intensive processes and labor detail.

Mr. Charles Schwab established an S-Corporation in 2007 in partnership with another individual. In 2011 his partner asked to be bought out for personal reasons, and Schwab purchased his partner’s share of the company.

Schwab solicited the assistance of Clarion University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to help him obtain needed funding and to develop a business plan that correlated with his plans to expand the company’s operations and targeted markets.

Schwab was no stranger to the Clarion University SBDC. The SBDC had assisted him previously, as it did his partner in 2003. The SBDC consultant assigned to him was familiar with their operations and recommended his loan packaging include PREP partner, the Northwest Commission. Once the bank loan commitment was approved, the total amount required came together.

“By July, we have taken on all of Commodore Homes and Colony Homes steel components” stated Schwab. “That added two full-time employees. We are now working on another large project that could potentially add three to four more full-time employees.”

Schwab recently reported that he has added a total of two full-time and two seasonal employees. Finances are still tight, but Schwab is working his way through. The company added more equipment, which has increased efficiency and opened up new markets. “We look forward to a bright future, and thank the SBDC for being an instrumental player as we enter this new phase of our business.”
