Oral Dynamics

Dr. Michael Rowland has practiced dentistry for over 30 years in the Lehigh Valley. The company, Oral Dynamics, Inc., owned and operated by he and his wife, Esther, is a full service dental practice offering both preventative as well as cosmetic services to their patients. For many years, their practice was located at a leased facility on Fairmont Street in Allentown. As the practice continued to grow, their offices were becoming too small to effectively handle the growth, and the Rowlands began a search for a larger location. Spotting another location in Allentown, the Rowlands took on the challenge of purchasing and revitalizing a dilapidated property in Allentown adjacent to The Girl Scouts of America. The Rowlands then contacted with Serfass Construction Company, Inc. to completely renovate the interior and exterior of the creating a completely state-of-the art facility.

The Rowlands, with financing provided by Embassy Bank, completed the purchase of their new facility in the second quarter of 2010 and the renovation project started to take shape. The costs to the renovations began to escalate, so the Rowlands, along with their banker from Embassy Bank contacted Kim Edwards, Financing Assistance Program Director at the Lehigh University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in November of 2010 to explore possible funding alternatives for the increasing costs to the renovations.

Through the efforts of the SBDC, The Rowlands successfully secured adequate funding to complete the entire renovation project. Financing was provided through multiple funding sources including a term loan with Embassy Bank and two additional loans to cover the gap in the total funding of the project. The funding partners included Allentown Economic Development Corp. (AEDC) through its Enterprise Zone Revolving Loan Fund and The Lehigh and Northampton Counties Revolving Loan Fund.

“The Girl Scouts no longer have to look at the blight and ugliness of a run down, dilapidated old building” says Esther Rowland.

Oral Dynamics is proud to be moving its dental practice to a larger, completely state-of-the-art facility, which “will be at the forefront of technology in dentistry,” said Dr. Rowland.

The newly renovated facility opened for business in April 2011. And the Grand Opening Ceremony, complete with a ribbon-cutting by Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, was held on May 25, 2011.

Oral Dynamics currently employs eight  full time employees. It is expected that four additional jobs will be created as a result of this major expansion project.
