Rogers Brothers Corporation

Rogers Brothers Corporation participated in the Extemin catalog show in Peru in September 2009. The Saint Francis University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Center for Global Competitiveness (CGC) represented the company by displaying marketing materials, developing trade leads, and conducting research on its behalf. At the conclusion of the trade event, the CGC submitted the trade leads, buyer information, and contact materials obtained from the show to Mr. Mark Kulyk. The center also worked closely with the U.S. Commercial Service to make the show a success.

Rogers Brothers Corporation has been working with the CGC for a several years. It is also a part of the Pennsylvania Mining Industrial Group established by the Saint Francis University SBDC in 1998.

Following the show, Rogers Brothers received an inquiry for a $250,000 trailer as a result of the EXTEMIN catalog show participation. It took several months of due diligence and negotiation resulted in a contract to provide the trailer to Southern Peru Copper Company. Both the Saint Francis University SBDC and the US Commercial Service offices in both Pittsburgh and Lima provided assistance throughout the process.

The trailer took a number of months to complete and finally ready for shipment in the early spring of 2011. The trailer has arrived in Peru and is being used in mining operations there. As a result of this sale, the US Commercial Service in Pittsburgh nominated Rogers Brothers for an Export Achievement Award. The company was selected for this award and it was presented its award during a ceremony at the facility Wednesday June 29, 2011.

The award was presented to Mark Kulyk, president of Rogers Brothers, by Congressman Mike Kelly. In his remarks, Congressman Kelly commented on the value of public-private partnerships in enabling this order to become a reality. Mr. Kulyk thanked both the Saint Francis SBDC and the US Commercial Service for all the assistance provided to the company throughout this process.

Mr. Kulyk is very pleased with the results of the catalog shows and is looking to continue his participation. Since his participation in Extemin, Rogers has participated in Electramining in Johannesburg South Africa and in Mining World Russia in Moscow in April 2011. He is looking forward to the next show coordinated by the SBDC.
