Nibbles & Bits

When Maggie Calpin came upon an unexpected opportunity to purchase Nibbles & Bits, a gourmet basket and gift business in Dunmore, PA, she knew her education, creativity, and professional experience would allow her to take over and continue to grow an already successful business.

Maggie came to the University of Scranton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for assistance in preparing a business plan in order to secure financing. She worked hard to put together solid financial projections and, after presenting her plan to multiple lenders, was able to secure a loan to purchase the business within a few months.

The business, which was established in 1985, continues to thrive under Maggie’s ownership and she has creative ideas for adding new products and services in the future. She really appreciates the SBDC services she was able to utilize at no direct cost and will continue to utilize SBDC support and guidance as needed in the future.

She participated in the Women’s Business Center Roundtable and was recently honored as Northeast Woman by The Scranton Times, resulting from a nomination submitted by her SBDC consultant.

A business plan was completed, financing was obtained, and an existing business was purchased. As a result, 2 part-time jobs were saved and 2 part-time jobs were created.
