Wood Technologies

Wood Technologies is a Meadville, Pa. based software development company. Founded by Sheila Wood in 1996, it initially offered consulting, training, programming, and software implementation services to manufacturing companies. The company continues to service this market.

In 2006, the company developed a working relationship with Steris Corporation, becoming the first and only authorized implementer of Steris’s Instrument Management Solution software. The software allows hospitals to manage and track surgical instruments, trays, and equipment between sterilization departments and operating rooms.

Shortly thereafter, Wood Technologies developed its Dynasty software product, which provides hospitals the ability to easily organize, modify, and verify all surgical equipment and tray inventories. This product was licensed to Steris and became an integral part of the Steris Instrument Management package.

As the business grew, the Gannon University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) assisted Wood with securing working capital financing to expand its consultant staffing in March 2008, working with the Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County. Dynasty was originally implemented as a client based system.

Wood soon realized, though, that a web based application would facilitate the installation process and provide a number of benefits to client hospitals. In late 2008, Wood, the SBDC, and the Economic Progress Alliance began an effort to secure funding to add a programmer to Wood’s staff to facilitate the development of the web based version of Dynasty. That loan was approved in April 2009, and the additional programmer was quickly brought on board.

Wood Technologies is an example of the type of high tech growth company that will play a vital role in diversifying Crawford County’s economic base. The Gannon University SBDC is pleased to have assisted in Wood’s growth, and along with the Economic Progress Alliance, the SBDC looks forward to a continuing relationship with Wood Technologies, Inc.
