Women's Entrepreneurship Center: START-UP Program

Business StartUP Series for Women Scranton - The University of Scranton Women's Entrepreneurship Center (WEC) and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are teaming up to offer "StartUP" a 4-week certificate program designed for women with lower incomes, those in transition or those trying to make a better life for themselves and their families, the program will offer women support and guidance in determining if entrepreneurship is an option for them. The series will be held in Scranton on Tuesdays, beginning June 5 and ending June 26, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. (Tuesdays: June 5, 12, 19 and 26) Location: The University of Scranton, Brennan Hall, 5th Floor, PNC Board Room, 300 Madison Ave; Scranton, Pennsylvania. Facilitated by experienced SBDC consultants, the series is designed to give lower income women the step-by-step guidance needed to develop successful small businesses. Participants in this interactive program will learn start-up basics, legal and insurance considerations, marketing and social media essentials, business plan development, accounting and budget skills, financing options and requirements, and goal setting. Local women business owners will also visit the sessions to share their experiences. The series is offered free of charge. Space is limited and applications are reviewed first come, first served. The University of Scranton Women's Entrepreneurship Center is a partnership between the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Kania School of Management (KSOM) that utilizes experienced SBDC consultants along with carefully selected KSOM student interns. The interns are highly skilled, and enhance the work done by consultants by assisting with training, conducting research, and completing projects.
