The Punxsutawney Spirit wrote a nice article on the grand opening of Creative Garden, a Punxsutawney daycare facility that moved into a new building this fall.

Erin Cameron started Creative Garden after attending a First Step workshop and receiving consulting assistance from the Clarion University Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Her business plan evolved as she continued to work with the SBDC.

“It just changed as we had new ideas,” Cameron said about working with the Clarion University Small Business Development Center (SBDC). “We originally thought about doing an addition on the house. But then I thought, we may as well start from scratch.”

Lucy Ames, a consultant with the Clarion University SBDC, talked about the role the SBDC plays in assisting small businesses with strategic and financial planning – like Creative Garden.

“We work to complete the full business plan and assist with funding agencies,” said Ames.

Several Pennsylvania legislators were on hand to help with the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, state House Speaker Sam Smith and Mark Adams, representing state Senate President Pro Tem Joe Scarnati.

Small businesses such as Creative Garden are “the true economic engine in the country,” said U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson.
